Since 1999, now US-based—wildlife conservation. Flowers & insects first: then science-backed nectar.

Hummers Nectar
Nectar for Hummingbirds - not just sugar
Welcome (R&D Batch 01)
If you’re reading this, you likely received a small R&D sample of Hummers Nectar.
Thank you for taking the time to look at it!
Hummers Nectar is the result of long-running field and clinical work with hummingbirds—tested with hundreds of birds and used in zoological and professional settings.
Our peer-reviewed publication dates back more than a decade because we chose to test, refine, and improve the formulation first—quietly, rigorously—before ever trying to bring it to a wider audience.
For 26 years, we’ve done field work in South America and collaborated with institutions in Europe. The formulation is proven—what we need now is help getting it in front of the U.S. community that can put it to use for U.S. hummingbirds as well.

Yes—you can taste it !
Under U.S. rules, this product is not labeled for human consumption (and at ~74% sugars, it’s not something we’d recommend as a people-food anyway). Still, it’s made from human-grade ingredients—so if curiosity strikes, you’re welcome to take a sip.
You’ll notice it isn’t “just sugar”: there’s real body from a light fat emulsion, highly hydrolyzed proteins, and amino acids that register immediately, with a clean mineral finish...

Help us produce it in the U.S.
We’re a U.S. nonprofit, and we’re preparing a fundraising campaign to support U.S. production and make this formulation accessible for hummingbirds and professional care work in the United States.
One big favor: if you can, please film a short phone clip—the first mix/pour, the birds’ first sips, and (if you feel like it) your own quick taste-test. Even a few seconds helps us tell the story and reach the people who care.
Mixing guide
Hummingbirds often choose what’s sweet over what’s nutrient-dense. Some will prefer plain sugar water at first.
Option A — Pure (most nutritious)
Use 1 scoop (≈15 g) / 100 ml water (minimum)
Up to 2 scoops / 100 ml water (maximum)
Option B — Sweet-adaptation mix (1:1)
1 scoop Hummers Nectar + 1 scoop white sugar, then mix into 100 ml water
This halves the nutrient concentration in the dry blend (protein ~2.3%, fats ~1.3%), yet it remains a true nectar with essential nutrients—not comparable to sugar-only water.
Safety: Your pouch contains one or two silica packets—discard the silica packets.

For nestlings (veterinarians & rehabilitation centers only):
Give from day 0 with live insects (essential mainly for gut motility and aerobic/anaerobic microbiota, not just protein).
If insects are abundant (e.g., Drosophila), no extra protein is needed. If insects are limited, add 3–6% highly hydrolyzed protein (dry-matter basis) or contact us for our amino acid & peptone mix.
Thank you again for your support
We truly appreciate you taking the time to try this sample. We’re looking forward to your honest impressions—what you notice, what surprises you, and what questions it raises!
We’re here for anything you need
Since 1999
26 years of passion, research, conservation, and fieldwork
We specialize in the study of hummingbird physiology, common diseases, care, and breeding, with a particular focus on nutrition.
Despite countless scientific publications on hummingbirds, a comprehensive protocol regarding their physiology and nutritional needs was missing.
We established the necessary protocols to maintain stable populations ex situ, enabling governmental and zoological institutions to apply appropriate conservation measures in situ—including breeding and reintroduction into the wild where necessary.
